LISTENING TO THE SOUNDING BODY
WORKSHOP
In a world full of identity politics & pressure to label ourselves, LTTSB is a retreat back to the human in our physical manifestations. What does it mean to sound and make sound without language? Removing the heavy shackles of speech we explore the sounds of our bodies collectively amplified, and meet each other and ourselves with curiosity. Everyone emanates sonic evidence of a living body - our attitudes towards these sounds, and the sounds of others is entirely up to us. This workshop is designed to encourage an empathetic relationship with one's physical self and with others through the use of sound which permeates through skin, brick and water alike. We are sound, we are our own sound, we are the sound of others and the sound of our environment.
Joanna lead participants through exercises to subvert common associations with sounds of the body by employing them as musical instruments collectively, using a mixture of specially created microphones, sonic sculptures and using the body as percussion. The group collectively works on sound scores facilitated by Joanna, with the aim of using the practice of listening and performing with the body as meditative practice. Afterwards, the group will discuss the sensation of hearing our bodies amplified. No previous sound or movement experience required, just a little bit of curiosity. Adaptable for different group needs.
